Fun with XLSX and DOCX files

Office 2007 introduced the new X format: xlsx, docx, pptx, etc. The files are generally much smaller than the previous format. Why? The old formats were binary, and the new formats are archived XML files. (Yes, this is the X in DocX). You can take a peek at the file structure by renaming a 2007/2010 Office file to .ZIP, and opening.

All the scripts are saved as .txt files. Newer files have a “View Script” button which will let you save or open a script in notepad. For earlier posts, the easiest way to download with IE is to right click on the link and use “Save Target As”. Rename file from Name_ext.txt to Name.ext.
